3:00pm to 3:45pm Welcome & Summit Overview
4:00pm to 5:00pm Session 1 (Choose from two topics)
  • "The Role of Passion in Spirituality" - Jimmy Sites
Passion doesn't just relate to romance. It also relates to relationships -- especially one's relationship with God. While many stories in the Bible depict passion, we will focus on the one recorded in three of the four Gospels -- the story of Mary and the alabaster jar of perfume. We will study Jesus' response to this act of passion, and discover that Jesus didn't always live by the holiness code that was so important in his day. We will also discuss the implications this has upon us in the 21st century.

  • "The Personality of a Congregation" - David Newberry
Each of us has a unique personality which affects our thought processes and determines how we relate and communicate with others. It is the premise of this session that congregations also have a personality -- a corporate personality which affects how that congregation relates and communicates. Based on the work of WIlliam Bridges in his book The Character of Organizations and on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, we will attempt to use an inventory adapted from secular settings to ascertain the personality of a congregation. We will also discuss the implications of a congreagtion's personality on leadership issues.

8:45am to 9:45am Session 2 (Choose from two topics)
  • "Basics of Involvement Ministry" - Jim McFarland
God calls every member to ministry. Knowing how to help your congregations greatest resources - it's people - to know why, where and how to serve are vital to building a strong, highly effective ministry for your congregation. This presentation will introduce you to what Involvement Ministry is and how to help your members continue growing deeper into the body.

  • "Keys to Planning an Evangelistic Campaign" - Tom Payne
Let's say you're thinking about hosting an evangelistic campaign but are not sure where to begin. This presentation will cover the key elements of planning an evangelistic campaign and help you prepare to win lost souls. Learn tried and proven methods to win souls! How will you know if your own congregation is ready to win souls? Have you considered the type of training material you will use? Is knocking doors the only method that will work? This session will help you explore creative methods of reaching people who are seeking Christ. Learn about WE CARE campaigns and how the Lord has blessed them with success in soul-winning.
  • 10:00am to 11:00am Session 3 (Choose from two topics)
  • "The Role of Passion in Evangelism" - Jimmy Sites
Imagine being called by God to kill your enemy with a sword. Whether man, woman, or child, your responsibility is to destroy every person in the region that is not an Israelite. You must be passionate about this task, not compromising the command in any way. This would be a difficult task. Such was the task of the Israelites during the conquest of Canaan. What does this have to do with us milleniums later? What does this have to do with passion in evangelism today? That's what we will talk about during this session.

  • "Developing a Prayer Ministry" - Glen Gray
Prayer is basic to all spiritual power, growth and life as a child of God. We all know that. Do you wished that the church were on its knees more? Do you want every event, every ministry, every plan of the church to be shrouded in prayer? Then how do we encourage individuals to pray? Is there a way in which we can structure plans that assists in making prayer a way of life? This lesson will try to address this important issue.
  • 11:15am to 12:15pm Session 4 (Choose from two topics)
  • "Ministering in Rural Communities" - Andy Baker
Small towns and small congregations present situations that can bring great stress to a minister and his family. Working without an eldership is oftentimes the case in small towns. How do you grow a church in rural towns? How do you stay encouraged and growing personally? How does your family make it financially, emotionally and spiritually? Bring your tool box. We will not have a pity party, but we will talk about some Biblical principles taught by some of God's workers who worked in difficult conditions.

  • "Biblical & Practical Aspects of Worship" - Scotty Harris & Jason Allison
Scotty and Jason are both gifted communicators who have a great love for God and an earnest desire to bring people into God's presence through worship. In this "blended" session they will present a summary of the meaning of worship, the emotion of worship, and the place of Scripture in biblical worship. The session will incorporate prayers, hymns and responsive readings.

8:00am to 8:30am Worship - with Jason Allison
8:45am to 9:45am Session 5 (Choose from thwo topics)
  • "Crisis Intervention Issues Facing Ministers" - Andy Baker
In our preparation as young ministers, sometimes we feel ill prepared for the responsibilities and opportunities that will immediately come when, because we are "The Preacher", we find ourselves being ushered into the emergency room, the hospital room, the room to help a family pick out a casket, the bedside at the time of death, the jail with a troubled teen, the couch when a serious sin is being confessed and a dozen other situations. At times like these, we feel helpless and hopeless and we know that we must "come through". You CAN make a real difference during these times when people make "mountains out of these moments".

  • "A Minister's Guide to Congregational Planning" - Archie Luper
Congregational planning is designed for church leaders who are seeking a renewed direction for their church family as well as a more focused ministry effort within their congregation. We'll look closely at Scripture for insights into God's desire for His church and develop a Biblical basis for planning. We'll then give you a planning model that will effectively walk you through a strategic planning process that will help facilitate renewal in your congregation and focus in your ministry efforts.
  • 10:00am to 11:00am Session 6 (Choose from two topics)
  • "The Basics of Life Groups" - Mike Sparks
Meeting the needs of one another and our community is the desire of all healthy churches. Sunday night small groups is one powerful option. In this session, we will define the goals and function of Life Groups. You will learn how Life Groups can assist Elders in their shepherding responsibilities, help nurture Christians to a greater spiritual maturity as an extension to your Sunday morning efforts, and be an effective tool in your evangelism strategy. We will also discuss the practical side of starting Life Groups in your congregation.

  • "Ministering to Inactive Members" - Jim McFarland
No one becomes part of a local church expecting only to warm a pew every week. However, many churches communicate a message that unfortunately allows new members and even seasoned Christians to lower the standard of congregational participation. Inactivity occurs for a variety of reasons and in this presentation, we'll take a look at some of the factors that encourage inactivity and learn some steps to help ourselves and inactive members receive the care necessary to help them become contributing members of the body.
  • 11:15am to 12:15pm Session 7 (Choose from two topics)
  • "The Preacher's Perils and Powers" - Glen Gray
If the challenges of Christianity were not enough, the minister of the Word faces unique perils that the average "Joe" does not encounter. What are they? How can we, as ministers, succeed in doing what God has called us to do? What is our power? This lesson will deal with some of those challenges and promote discussion afterwards.

  • "Finding Calm in the Middle of Chaos" - Scotty Harris
This session will offer a general overview of the importance of the minister's spiritual formation, focusing on certain of the "classic" spiritual disciplines - prayer, submission, silence, study, etc., as the means by which the Holy Spirit shapes us into the image of Christ. The gradual, daily consistency of these disciplines stands in sharp contrast to the "shortcut" books which proliferate Christian bookstores nowadays. The disciplines help us to keep our bearings, maintaining a sense of calm and quiet when chaos breaks into our lives and work.
